Alert profiles tell up.time what groups of users will receive the alert. You can also specify how long before an alert is escalated as well. This works with 3 things:

1. The "Start alerting on notification number:" field in the alert/action profile
2. The "End alerting on notification number:" field in the alert/action profile
3. The "Alert Interval" field in each of the service monitors that have the alert/action profile attached

The "Start alerting on notification number" field tells up.time what alert number to start alerting on. The alerting frequency is specified by the "Alert interval" in each service monitor (default 120min).

Example:
If a monitor is set with an Alert Interval of 120min (2hrs), and has an Alert Profile attached with the "Start alerting on.." set to 3, users attached to that alert profile will only get alerts after 6 hours.

One of the recommended ways of using escalations is to setup at least 2 alert profiles:
- One for "1st Level" alerts (to admins), with the "start alerting on" set to "1"
- The second alert profile to be "2nd Level" (to higher-up admins, or managers), with the "start alerting on" set to "2 or 3"
