article Changing the default host check

up.time always adds PING and UPTIME as default service monitors and assigns the PING monitor as the host check.  Some environments may prefer to change the default up.time host check from PING to UPTIME.  Typical reasons for this change include:

  • PING is not allowed on the local network.
  • PING is unreliable.

To change the host check:

  • Browse to Services -> View Host Checks.
  • Click the edit icon next to any host(s) that you would like to change the host check.
  • Select the desired host check in the dialog box.

Note that this process will need to be repeated for each host that you add to up.time.
