article VM instance is consuming a license

There are several reasons why a VMware instance may consume a license:

  • VMware tools are not installed on the target VM.
  • The VM is not running on an ESX server that is also monitored by up.time.
  • The VM instance has been added to up.time using the node or virtual node type.  All VMware instances should be added to up.time as Agent element types.
