How up.time Works
Overview
Brief Description
up.time is a client/server system monitoring tool that allows you to gather and monitor many performance metrics on a system as well monitor and alert on popular services that systems would be running (web services, database services, middleware, etc). It will also allow you to generate graphs and manager level reports based on the statistics gathered. This is useful for trend analysis, system/service outage reporting and growth projections.
The common way to configure up.time to monitor your servers is install the up.time agent software on monitored system and have the up.time monitoring station collect statistics from the agent. Performance statistic collection is not limited to just the up.time agent. Another way to collect statistics is via Net-SNMP OIDs already installed on the system or Novell NRM if the Novell Netware machine has NRM installed. Types o performance statistics that are collected are cpu, disk usage, file system capacity, network i/o, etc.

Of the other methods of monitoring systems with up.time, the following knowledge base article explains what is required for Net-SNMP agent monitoring and the Novell NRM agent requires NRM to be installed on the NetWare 6.5 system.
Next
You should now have the up.time Monitoring Station installed and a few Agents installed as well. The next step is to add those systems into up.time through the web interface. The Add Systems to up.time tutorial will explain how to do that.
