Generating Reports
Overview
In Brief
The performance statistics that are gathered by up.time are able to be compiled into many different pre-packaged reports. Two popular reports are the Resource Usage Report and the Service Availability Report which are described below.
This tutorial covers the "Generate Now" options and the "Save Report" section is covered in the Schedule and Publish Reports tutorial.
Resource Usage Report
- from the "My Portal" page, click the "Reports" tab
- the Resource Usage report is the first page displayed when browsing to Reports tab
- for the purpose of this tutorial, we will just select a couple options for the report, but any combination is acceptable
- in addition to the Resource Utilization and CPU Performance Graph options that are selected by default, select the Workload (Top 10 - CPU) option as well
- each report option will display either a graph or a list in the report when it is generated
- in the "List of Groups" section, you can select a system group to have the report options apply to all of the systems in that group rather than selecting them all individually
- the "List of Views" section is similar to the Groups, where you can select one or more Views to have the report options apply to all the systems listed in the View
- if you do want to select the systems individually, you can do so in the "List of Systems" section
- for the purpose of this tutorial, "Print To Screen" was chosen
- the report is layed out so that all of the graphs and lists relating to a host appear directly below that host
- a short list of system information is always displayed first including cpu, memory and swap info
- the resource utilization displays brief stats for the specific time period
- the graphs give a quick graphical representation of cpu usage first on a system level and then broken down for specific processes
- if you want to get better look at the stats, say at a certain spike, you can then generate a performance graph which can be zoomed
Service Availability Report
- from the "My Portal" page, click the "Reports" tab
- click the "Service Availability" link on the left side
- similar to the Resource Usage report above, you need to select which systems you want included in the report
- the report will display each of the services for the systems/devices selected and a percentage of the availability levels for the service
- OK - the response received for the service monitor was within threshold limits
- WARN - the warning threshold was reached based on the output received
- CRIT - the critical threshold was reached based on the output received
- MAINT - the service monitor was in scheduled maintenance through up.time
- UNKNOWN - generally means a response was not received from the service monitor before timing out
Generate Now
- if you would like to generate the report right away, you can do so choosing one of the "Generate Now" options
- Email - will send a PDF report via email to a specific address based on up.time user, user group, or an address manually entered
- Print to Screen - an html report will be generated in a new window
- PDF to Screen - similar to "Print to Screen" except that the report is in PDF format
- XML to Screen - an XML format of the report is generated in a new window
