article /var/adm/messages: inetd uptmagnt connection warnings

After up.time starts monitoring some Linux or UNIX servers, you may see repeated messages in your messages log similar to those shown below.

Jul 2 14:43:27 hostname inetd[486]: uptmagnt[3391] from 172.31.200.19 4094
Jul 2 14:46:07 hostname inetd[486]: uptmagnt[6437] from 172.31.200.19 4377
Jul 2 14:46:36 hostname inetd[486]: uptmagnt[6610] from 172.31.200.19 4422

These messages are a result of the connection logging setting in your inetd or xinetd configuration.  The up.time agent connects to your server approximately 10 to 15 times per polling period so if warning level messages are enabled in (x)inetd, each connection will be logged.

To avoid this message, simply change your (x)inetd logging policy to ignore connections from the up.time monitoring station or all warning events in general.
