article What is a service group?

A service group is a collection of service monitors that are applied as templates to one or more elements.  This allows simple management of standard monitors across hundreds of elements at one time.

Terms:

  • Master monitor: a monitor that acts as the starting template to be cloned onto any member servers.
  • Member monitor: a clone of one of the master monitors that has been applied to an element.
  • Member element / server: elements that are a part of this service group and therefore have a set of cloned monitors applied to them from the service group.
