article How to add or enable a non-root up.time user on ESX4

Please follow these steps to add a non-root user to your ESX server to enable up.time monitoring.

Note: You may find that up.time will stop collecting new performance data for an ESX 3.x server after it has been upgraded to 4.x. The following steps will also re-enable up.time user access.

  • Login to the Virtual Infrastructure Client and connect directly to the target ESX server.
  • Click the Users & Groups tab.
  • Right click and select Add.
  • In the Add New User dialog, set the following parameters:
    • login;
    • password (at least 8 characters);
    • Group: Set to users and select Add.
  • Right click on the target ESX server in the left hand navigation pane and select Add Permission.
  • Select the user you created in step 4 and click Add.
  • Ensure that the user is set to a Read-Only role and that these permissions are propagated to child objects.
