Follow these steps to configure WebSphere 6.0 for basic monitoring:

  • Login to the WebSphere Admin console.
  • Click Applications -> Install New Application.
  • Choose Remote File System and enter either C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere\AppServer\installableApps\PerfServletApp.ear or /usr/IBM/WebSphere/AppServer/installableApps/PerfServletApp.ear (defaults), depending on which OS Websphere is installed on.
  • Choose default options until done then save to configuration.
  • Click Applications -> Enterprise Applications.
  • Select perfServletApp then click Start.

Other options that may be required include:

  • Click Monitoring and Tuning -> Performance Monitoring Infrastructure (PMI)
    • Click on the server name.
    • Click All then OK.
    • Click Save Configuration.
  • Click System Administration -> Console settings -> Console Groups
    • Click Add
    • Choose EVERYONE under Select from Special Subject.
    • Change Role to Monitor and click OK.
    • Click Save to apply changes to the configuration.
