article 5.3.x upgrade causes duplicates for detached monitors

up.time 5.3 introduced new functionality to allow management of service groups at the element group level. This feature greatly simplifies management of service groups for large lists of elements.

Unfortunately, if your service group prior to the 5.3 upgrade included detached service monitors, a copy of the original master will be re-applied to hosts and appear as a duplicate monitor. This result occurs because prior to 5.3.2, a detached service monitor has no association with its original service group.

There is no workaround for this issue other than manually deleting the detached monitors and then detaching the newly created service group monitors. This is the best approach as 5.3.2 keeps track of which monitors have been specifically detached from a service group so that duplication does not occur in the future.
